I read an article the other day that I would like to share with you entitled, “A Reason To Live”

With the increased numbers of suicides and suicide attempt in our city and in our nation we pray that this article will be a help to you as it was to me.

 A Reason To Live

             It is called the “Suicide Belt” – ten wealthy towns strung together along the shore of Lake Michigan north of Chicago.          

            The teens who live there are not poor, deprived youth.  Most of them live in huge houses with swimming pools and servants’ quarters.  They vacation in Europe, on the Caribbean, or wherever their affluent parents wish to take or send them.  Yet many of these youth are miserable.  Suicide attempts are common and often successful.

            Of course, suicides are not confined to a few towns on Lake Michigan.  Unfortunately they are occurring frequently all over the land.  In a recent year over thirty thousand successful suicides were reported.  The reason behind these self-inflicted murders is simple – many people have failed to find anything in this world worth living for.

            A casual glance at the first few verses of Ecclesiastes would lead one to believe that is how Solomon felt.  “All is vanity,” he said.  In fact, after considering everything the world had to offer, Solomon surmised that there was little in life but eating, drinking, and working.  Eventually this great Jewish king learned that life is worthwhile – under one condition.  He gave everything a try, and found that serving God and trusting Him are all that really matter.

            How much happier we would be if we too would accept that conclusion!
